Bodrum is where the Turkish Aegean becomes a resort: white cube houses, bougainvillea, a castle on the harbour, and a peninsula of coves that each feel like a different holiday.
The town
- Bodrum Castle and the Museum of Underwater Archaeology — the castle is the landmark, and the museum inside it is genuinely first-rate.
- The marina and bazaar streets — lively, commercial, good for an evening.
- Bardakçı Bay — the classic view of the castle, best at sunset.
- The theatre — a Roman theatre above the town, still used for concerts.
The peninsula
Half the point of Bodrum is getting out of it. The peninsula runs west for nearly 40km, and the villages along it each have their own character:

Things worth doing
- A day on a boat — the standard Aegean gulet trip, lunch included, swimming stops between bays.
- Bodrum Amphitheatre and the windmills — quick stops between the town and the peninsula road.
- A day trip to Kos — the Greek island is a short ferry ride away, and worth checking current entry requirements before you plan it.
When to come
The season is long: late April to late October. June and September are the best combination of warm sea and tolerable heat. August is very hot and very busy, and prices peak around the bay.
If your trip includes treatment
Bodrum is a recovery destination, not a clinical one — there is no significant hospital capacity for elective procedures on the peninsula. It works well as the second half of a journey: procedure in Istanbul or Antalya, then a quiet week by the water. Be honest with yourself about sun exposure after skin procedures, and check with your clinician before swimming after surgery.
